The best in new Indie bands for 2020 you need to know about!

Cover: Drive

2020 looks to be an exciting year for the Indie music scene so I’m here to give you a run down on the best new and exciting bands so you can see them in small venues before they inevitably hit the big time because we all love saying that we saw them before everyone else right?

  1. Inhaler

The Irish indie quartet from Dublin are taking the indie music scene by storm with there infectious melodies and insane basslines inhaler are quickly becoming set for success. With songs like “Ice Cream Sundae” providing a catchy tune with a chorus you’ll be singing for days and their latest single “We Have To Move On” giving out classic baselines that project their love of rock and roll Inhaler really do have something for everyone. There love of music comes from the realms of the record collections their parents hold and whilst Elijah Hewson (vocals) may be the offspring of legendary U2 singer Bono I’ve no doubt that they’ll be stars in their own right. Inhaler consists of Ryan McMahon (Drums), Josh Jenkinson (Lead), Robert Keating (Bass) and Elijah Hewson (Vocals and Rhythm).

2. Drive

Newcastle synthpop duo Drive are starting to cement themselves into the indie music scene with three incredibly crafted tunes for you to wrap your ears around. Andy Bell and Fletcher are creating music you’ll want to listen to for years to come with their latest single ‘Reckless’ already one of my favourite songs of the year that’s perfect for dancing to on a Friday night or even a late night spot of bedroom karaoke (if you’re going to try and convince me you don’t sing into your hairbrush from time to time it won’t work). I highly suggest you get down to a gig or check out their SoundCloud because the only way for this band really is up and I can’t wait to hear what they do next.

3. Flowvers

Portsmouth band Flowvers are third on the list with over 16,500 monthly listeners and over 500 thousand streams on Spotify this incredible four piece really are putting Portsmouth on the map and with it being my hometown I couldn’t not give them the credit they deserve. I first came across them on the big screen in Guildhall square and have been obsessed ever since (For those not from Portsmouth this is a big screen we have in the town centre used for advertising and occasionally sport). Tracks like ‘Nosebleed’ are perfect for turning up to 100 on road trips and as for the rest of their debut EP named ‘Throwaway Generation’ it’s passionately crafted with upbeat inspiring melodies that make you want to dance I can hear them headlining festivals up and down the country for years to come already. Flowvers consist of Matisse Moretti (Vocals), Connor Griffiths (Drums), Henry Wood (Bass) and Stanley Powell (Guitar).

4. Larkins

Manchester band Larkins are already making a huge impact on indie music already with a headline show at Manchester’s Albert Hall back in 2019 making them one of the most loved and exciting bands around. Songs like ‘TV Dream’ and ‘Not Enough Love’ are giving Larkins their well earned success with sing-along choruses and great musicianship. Josh Noble (Lead), Henry Beach (Bass and Synths), Dom Want (Guitar and Synths) and Joe Gaskell (Drums) are set to make 2020 one if the most exciting years for the indie music scene and their genuine passion for music and love for the people who support them make them a band you really need to get behind as it really feels like a community rather than just the usual fan and artist divide.

5. Riscas

The final band you need to listen to are Birmingham based indie pop four piece Riscas with their addictive tunes and even praise from Radio one DJ Greg James who states “I love them, what a sound!” they really are a band you need to be getting behind in 2020. ‘Panic Like Tom’ was the first of their tracks I ever heard and I’ve been hooked ever since, I even play their track ‘Dance’ when I’m feeling anxious because I find it incredibly comforting whilst the whole discography is a complete joy to listen to anytime, anywhere. Riscas posses an incredible talent for music supporting artist like Sam Fender, Pale Waves and The Pale White giving you those summer vibes all year round (we all need summer vibes am I right?).
